Description
Commercial hay knife with a cast iron blade with a coarsely toothed edge. The backs of the "teeth" are ground to a knife edge. At the top of the blade portion, the casting has a projection in the plane of the blade extending out from the smooth side of the blade with the tip bent up into a tang. Another projection in lined with the toothed side of the blade extends about 6 1/2" to an upward bend roughly 2 1/2" high which terminates with another tang at right angles to the bend part in the direction of the toothed edge. Both tangs are set into turned, probably birch, handles painted black and tang ends are peened over washers at the handle ends. Each handle has an iron ferrule.
