Chest of Drawers
Bottom four drawers and cut-down case from a tall chest of drawers
Description
Bottom four drawers and cut-down case from a tall chest of drawers. Case, top, and drawer fronts, rails, guides, and bottoms of white pine. Drawer sides and backs of basswood, knobs are between-centers turned of cherry. Drawers are dovetailed, fronts are lipped at ends and at top. Drawer bottoms of more than a single board have tongue and grooved joints as do the vertical back boards of the case. The back is set into rabbets in the back edge of the ends and nailed into place. The back boards are also free nailed into the backs of the solid case bottom and the solid divider between the third and fourth drawers up from the bottom (the fourth drawer from the bottom is now the top drawer). The ends and back have cut-outs at their bottoms creating feet. In the front, pine blocks with curved inner edges are screwed to the ends and nailed to the case bottom which define those feet. The case and drawer fronts are stained dark red-brown and varnished over.
