Description

"A Group of Shakers at Prayer," shows 11 brothers and 10 sisters kneeling in prayer in what appears to be the meeting-room in one of the family dwellings at Canterbury, New Hampshire, apparently produced from a sketch of an unnamed artist who was visiting the community. The illustration, titled, "Sketches Among the Shakers--At Prayer," had originally been published in the Illustrated News of October 29, 1853, with an accompanying article titled, "Sketches Among the Shakers."
