Opener, Letter
Description
Letter opener of an unknown tropical hardwood. Wood burned into one side is a scene including a house, windmill, and sailing ship, probably Dutch. A 1/8" diameter hole is drilled through one end that had a yellow satin ribbon in it when acquired, but the ribbon is no longer extant. Above 1/8" diameter hole there appears to be the initials "MC / JB" in brown ink.
Notes
When acquired, a ribbon was tied to one end, with printed text reading, "I CAME FROM THE LEBANON SHAKER HOME," suggesting that it was sold in the Shaker store.
