Bag
Linen bag, Mount Lebanon, NY
mid-19th century
Description
Handwoven linen cloth sewn into a bag. Proper right side is pieced, proper left is a folded over 1/4" wide hem. Opening at top is also a rolled 3/8" wide handstitched hem. This bag was most likely made from a much larger piece of cloth, possibly an old sheet. The pieced side was done to widen hand-loomed cloth, but the dimension of the bag is too narrow and does not warrant piecing, so likely cut out of another textile and recycled.
