Description
Carrier handle of a dark brown, diffuse porous hardwood which, if domestic, is probably sweet gum (Liquidambar styraciflua). The handle is undrilled and has two pencil lines across the outside, 5/8" apart. The lower line is 1 3/4" above the bottom.
Notes
The only other sweet gum artifacts in the museum's collection are oval box and carrier bands made during the Lillian Barlow / William Perkins era at Mount Lebanon; this handle could date to that era as well.
