Description
(a) Pipe of brick red clay. Bowl has a rim and a row of beads below it. Stem end also has rim. Bowl has an oval top, 5/8" x 11/16". (b) Pipe stem of basswood (Tilia americana). Unused.
Notes
According to Brother Ricardo Belden of the Hancock, MA Shakers, the Shakers stopped using tobacco in the 1860s, but they still kept clay pipes for use in treating certain throat ailments.
