South and Second Families with the Canaan Valley and Queechy Lake in the Background, Mount Lebanon, NY

Object ID:

Community:
New York, Mount Lebanon
Description

This photograph was taken from a high vantage point on Lebanon Mountain -- probably above the North Family. The view shows the Mount Lebanon South Family on the left side of the photograph and the Second Family on the right side. In the distance the Canaan Valley -- where at present New York State Route 22 is located -- and at the top of the valley a glimpse of Queechy Lake in the town of Canaan. Above the Second Family buildings the South Family Chair Factory stands alone on what is now named Chair Factory Road. On the back of the card on which the photograph is mounted is a hand-written menu for "Wednesday" -- Breakfast, Dinner, and Supper. It also has a brass eyelet punched through what would be the top of the menu apparently so the menu could be hung up.
