Description

Wire cutters. Hand-wrought steel for six different gauges of wire. Five of the holes are nearly straight through while the sixth penetrates the "holder jaw" at a steel 45 degree angle. The handle of the "holder jaw" is short. Cutter jaw handle is long and the forged tang is inserted through a turned maple handle and clinched at the handle end. Handle has a steel ferrule. A steel plate is affixed to the outside of the cutter jaw by a right-angle bend in its end which fits into a through mortise in the handle shaft and a steel wing screw that screws into a tapped hole in the shaft. At the cutter end, another wing screw is secured in a tapped hole in the steel plate. This wing screw allows the distance between the cutter and the steel plate to be adjusted allowing this plate to function as a fence so that short pieces of heavy wire can be cut to the same length. “C. W.” is stamped on the inside of the holder jaw, on the outside of the holder jaw handle, and on the inside of the cutter jaw handle shaft.
