Description

Worked bone. Top of bone is recessed with a central through-hole; tapers drastically to a slightly tapered cylinder. Base of cylinder is shaved to a flat edge, where there is a through-hole.

Notes

This needle holder, called a "scabbard," was sewn to a heart-shaped piece of fabric that sisters wore pinned to their dresses, so that they could easily put down and then retrieve the needle.
