Description

Oval (not elliptical) box with sugar maple bands, white pine headers. Swallowtail tips inserted through box and lid bands and secured with copper points. All other points in swallowtails and through bands into headers are wood. No evidence of paint visible, but probably clear-coated.

Notes

This box features several of the characteristics of what are believed to be the earliest Shaker boxes including a more rounded than elliptical shape, swallowtail tips inserted into the box bands, and additional wood peg fastenings of the headings to the box band in the area of the box band overlap.
