Auger

Screw auger, North Family, Enfield, CT

Object ID:
1956.8043.1
Community:
Connecticut, Enfield
Description

T-handled Scotch pattern screw uger with screw lead. Metal is heavily corroded and my guess is that the auger and shaft are forged iron. The shaft is set into the handle vvia a T-plate forged onto shaft end. Bolts and nuts secure the plate in the handle. The handle is between-centers turned and is made of red oak. Wood is weathered. Bit diameter is 2 13/16".
