Object ID:

Community:
New York, Mount Lebanon
Description

Tin holder with funnel at top. Top of funnel has a pipe to a pipe in the stove. 19" h, funnel is 8 1/4", flattened on wall side to assure rigidity. Hanger rod descends 7 1/2" below back edge of funnel and supports shallow pan 1/2" d and 4 1/2" in diameter, used to hold the lamp, whose chimney went up the funnel.

Notes

Oil lamps were placed on tin holders such as this one. The pipe at the top helped to draw away smoke; those were attached to other sections of pipe or to chimneys, drawing away as much smoky exhaust from the room as possible.
