Description

Foundry pattern of white pine (Pinus strobus) for a large flywheel. Wheel has six gracefully curved spokes. Rim made up of six half-lapped sections notched for spoke tenons. Back side of rim is flat as is backs of spokes. On other side, rim has another extension with same curvature as rim. Centered on the sides of the spokes are curved vanes extending from the center hub to the inside of the rim. Vane curvatures are same as that of the spokes. The back side of the rim is scribed, numbered (stamped), and 1/8" diameter holes drilled. Numbers are in pairs between scribe lines that are perpendicular to the tangent at that point on the rim. Numbers extend from 1 to 71.
