Scraper plane, Church Family, Mount Lebanon, NY
Description
Beech scraper plane of some sort. Body, handle (open tote), and wedge all beech. Iron is of steel, forged from a file with cutting, actually scraping, edge beveled slightly, less than 90 degrees.and is bedded at 90+ degrees to body. The edge is rounded to match an iron plate set into the sole ahead of and behind scraper iron. The plane has no escapement open to either side but does have a 9/16" diameter hole drilled into plane body next to throat at a slight angle such that it intersects with the throat several inches above the sole. Plane appears to have been shortened as toe is neither square with the top, bottom nor side.
