(a) Tapered white pine standard tenoned into a carved wood cross-piece and pinned in place. Cross piece is padded with wool and covered with a plaid fabric stitched to hold padding tightly in place. (b) tapered white pine standard tenoned into a carved cross-piece of butternut with pinned joint. No fabric cover or wool padding extant.
