Description

Cast steel heel-shaped cutter fitted to a turned hickory handle. The outside of the cutter has been ground, and the cutting edge was machined, on three sides, to yield a pinked or zigzag edge. Two sides taper inward to the fourth side. The fourth side was machined so that it is flat edged 1/4" shorter than the pinked edges. The handle face inbetween the cutter has a central protruding circle.

Notes

The tool was used to cut fabric leaves with pinked edges for Shaker poplarware needle cases.
