Jack, Miter
Miter shooting jig, South Family, Mount Lebanon, NY
Description
Mitre shooting jig with hikory screw, mahogany frame and vise jaws, and an elm cleat. Screw attached to moveable vise jaw with some sort of iron or steel pin screwed or otherwise secured in the center of the screw end. This pin apparently has some sort of head and is inserted through a hole in a metal plate between the head of the pin and the screw end. The steel plate is attached to the moveable jaw by two steel wood screws. To keep the moveable jaw in line with the fixed jaw, a mahogany plate is screwed to the underside of the moveable jaw with five steel wood screws. This plate extends beyond the moveable jaw to slide along the undersides of the two longitudinal frame components.
