Description

Mattress-making mallet with a sawn and carved maple head (similar to head on carpenter's mallet but smaller) through which is tenoned a riven and carved red oak handle.

Notes

The mallet was used with cutting punch 1957.9309.1 for cutting cloth circles used to cover mattress buttons.
