Rope type trundle bed, Mount Lebanon, NY
Description
Trundle bed (a) with rope "mattress." Heavy sycamore (Platanus occidentalis) frame secured at corners with bed bolts through head and foot rails and captured nuts in side rails. Bed bolt covers also sycamore. Headboard (b) of pine with turned oak cleats (probably Quereus alba), one side flattened, and screwed to headboard with turned tenons at bottom to fit mortises in head rail. Cast iron caster fittings screwed to underside of corners. Caster wheels are turned maple (Acer spp.). Bed painted a pumpkin color. Mortises for headboard cleats drilled a bit off vertical so that headboard slopes back a bit when in place.
