Description

Pine butter churn painted blue-gray. Has an inner tin hemi-cylindrical bottom, with a second bottom below it, entered three slits on either sides. (a) body of the churn 12 1/2" w x 29" h overall. A dovetailed gallery 1 3/4" wide x 1/2" d surrounds the top, within which the top fits. The top is 12 3/8" w x 15 3/8" d, with a center thicker than the edges which are planed down to size (b) two cross-cleats for lifting are on the top. (c) is a four-vaned rotary dasher, 12 1/8" w x 11 5/8" across the end cross-pieces, and consists of two mortise-and-tenon jointed strips per vane. (d) is the removable commercial axle and handle for turning the vanes made of cast iron.
