Description
A maple four-post bed. The post are simple with a 2 5/8" h cylindrical finial with a rounded top; the post's shaft is squared with the corners shaved and a tapered cylindrical leg. Set inside the legs is a cast iron caster. The caster has a spike which fits inside a hole in the bottom of each leg; the spike has a flat base with two arms which sit on either side of the wooden wheel. The wheel has a metal pin through it which secures it to the arms of the caster. The sides of the bed are blind-mortise jointed to the bed posts and bolted secure. The sides exhibit notches that suggest that the bed was widen and lengthened at some point. Each long side has two rectangular notches for cross slats. The short sides have five through-holes each.
