Corking mallet with a turned ash head and a turned hickory handle through-tenoned in head. Tenon is un-wedged so mallet may have been assembled with a green-turned head and dry handle so that the mortise shrunk around tenon as it dried. Metal (iron?) plate secured to working end of head.
