Three-step stool, Canterbury, NH
Description
Wooden step stool with three steps. The step stool has a triangular shape. The front and top sides are one piece each and are cut at a curve on the inside. Two of the three steps are held in place by notches in the sides that are reinforced by small wood braces. These two steps comprise two pieces of wood mortise and tenon jointed; the two tenons are visible on the steps' front edges. The top step has beveled edges, overhangs all sides, and is nailed in place; the nail holes are filled. The bottom support bars are dovetail jointed and screwed into the sides. The bottom crossbar is screwed into the two back legs. All outside screws are dome-ended and brass. Where the crossbar and back legs join are two circular stops to keep the step stool from hitting a wall. The wood is varnished.
