Description

Veneer press. The press has four splayed legs, which supports a large board for a table top with two circular and one square through-hole at one end. At center, the veneer press mechanism is set at an angle. The press has three metal rollers, which are turned by a series of gears attached to a single crank with a turned wood handle. In the arms, which the rollers are housed, are two wedge pieces through the bottom of either side. Above the rollers there is a between-center turned spindle of a lighter wood than the rest of the press.

Notes

Used to press poplar strips that would be woven; the woven poplar covered a variety of boxes, pincushions, and needle cases.
