Description

Wool wheel with maple table and two maple and one beech legs (a), beech spinning head post and birch tensioning screw assembly (b), a commercial accelerator head (c), a beech wheel support post (d), and a 44 1/2" wheel (e) with a cherry hub, birch spokes and rim. Wheel hub has brass bushing in hole for axle which rides on a steel axle in wheel support post. The head is made of maple posts and spindle pulley; cherry drive pulley, steel shaft and spindle, and both leather and fiber bearings.

Notes

"JH" may indicate Josiah Holmes or either of his sons, James and John, or Josiah Harding. All four served as trustees at various times in the period 1801-1856 at the Sabbathday Lake, ME community.
