Braided rug, Mount Lebanon, NY

20th century

Object ID:
2006.19.1
Community:
New York, Mount Lebanon
Makers
Collins, (Mary Jane) Sarah (1855-1947)
Description

Braided rug, two different three-strand braid combinations: maroon/gray/lavender and brown/black/tan alternating strips. Outer three strips are bright red/gray/brown, brown/black/white, and a repeat of the first. The gray flannel material looks like scraps from cloak making and the brown looks like the "pressed cloth" dress goods from Mount Lebanon.

Notes

The fabric scraps point to Mount Lebanon and the color combinations look very much like the work of Eldress Sarah Collins.
