Iron, Branding
Brand holder, Church Family, Mount Lebanon, NY
Description
Iron holder for some sort of brand. The holder consists of a cast iron head with a channel to house a brand and an iron handle which has a threaded stud at one end which screws into a tapped hole at the center of the top of the head. At the other end, the 5/16" diameter rod is bent into a circle to complete the handle. The channel which holds the stamp is U-shaped with a small dovetail at its mouth to hold the stamp assembly. However, the iron making up the half-dovetail shape on one side of the channel has broken off.
