Description

Between-centers turned block of maple with hole through center into which is driven a wrought iron spindle. One end of spindle has been turned to an 11/32" diameter cylinder for 1" of its length; below that the spindle is threaded for 1/2" of length, 3/8" dia. The portion of the spindle embedded in the maple turning is about 1/2" square. A slot has been cut through the spindle just below where it exits the maple turning and a wedge is driven through the slot; at the other end a steel bushing and a square nut hold the turning tight against the wedge. from the wedge to the spindle end, the spindle tapers to a blunt point.
