Last, Shoe
Shoe last, Canterbury, NH
Description
Wood block cut in the form of a right shoe, with a removable instep wedge, which is not present. The shoe last has a square toe, after which the last is cut 1/2" deep at an obtuse angle. From there the height of the last increases toward the instep and plateaus into a flat oval top. Off-center on the top there is a tube hole 9/16" in diameter. Below the top is a through-hole filled with a plaster-like substance, which completely blocks one side of the hole, but has been mostly removed from the other side. From the top of the last the heel curve extends to the seat. The seat's sides curve to form the waist and then widen to the joint before tapering to form the toe. The seat is covered with nail holes. The last 1 3/8" is cut 1/16" shorter than the rest of the last.
