Last, Shoe
Shoe last, North Family, Mount Lebanon, NY
Description
Wood block cut in the form of a shoe. The last has a round toe, from which the instep slopes upward before plateauing in an elongated oval. Below the top of the last's body there is a through-hole filled with a plaster-like substance. This substance is visible from both sides, but one side appears to have been drilled into. From the top the heel curve extends to the seat. The seat sides are curved to form the waist before growing to the widest point at the last joints then tapering to form the toe. The bottom shows signs of heavy use.
