Last, Shoe
Shoe last, North Family, Mount Lebanon, NY
Description
Wood block cut in the form of a shoe with a removable instep wedge, which is not present. The last has a round toe with peg holes along the bottom edge and center of the toe cap. After the toe cap there is a cut in the last at an acute angle. The cut is 1/2" down, then slopes upward before plateauing at top. Below the top there is a through-hole filled with a plaster-like substance. One side has a hole in the plaster from a piece of wood and the other is completely blocked. From the top the heel curve extends to the seat. The seat sides are curved to form the waist before growing to the widest point at the last joints then tapering to form the toe. Along the seat edge there are numerous nail holes, as does the entire heel.
