Last, Shoe
Shoe last, Canterbury, NH
Description
Wood block cut in the form of a shoe. The last has an almond-shaped toe. The height of the last increases toward the instep then plateaus at the top in an elongated oval. There are remnants of black paint on top and upper sides. Below the top there is a through-hole. From the top the heel curve extends to the seat. The seat sides are curved to form the waist before growing to the widest point at the last joints then tapering to form the toe. Along the bottom edge of the last are numerous wooden pegs. Underneath the old accession number the wood is lighter from being covered by leather.
