Last, Shoe
Shoe last, North Family, Mount Lebanon, NY
Description
Wood block cut in the form of a shoe with a removable instep wedge. The last has a square toe. After the toe cap the wedge starts. The instep slopes upward and rounds off and is then cut in a concave line. The wedge has a threaded through-hole in line with the highest point. The wedge sits flush with the rest of the last. Below the top of the last's body there is another threaded through-hole. From the top the heel curve extends to the seat. The seat sides are curved to form the waist before growing to the widest point at the last joints then tapering to form the toe. Along the outside bottom edge are a number of evenly spaced wooden pegs.
