Dipper
Wooden dipper, Mount Lebanon, NY
Description
The dipper comprises of a measure and a long turned handle attached at an angle. The handle is smooth with a rounded tip. Below the tip the handle is at it largest diameter and then tapers toward the base. The diameter of the handle increases exponentially and its sides square-off making a cylindrical form. The cylinder is cut at an angle and hollowed out so that it cups the side of the measure. On the underside of the handle there is a washer and nail, securing the handle to the measure. The sides of the measure are bent around a circular bottom, secured by nails, and are 3 15/16" h. The ends of the sides overlap with one another in the back of the dipper where the handle is secured. The sides of the measure are secured to one another by 13 nails along the exterior seam and four nails at the interior seam. There are two more nails above the handle - one on either side - and two below the handle - one above the other.
