Scale
Cast iron scale, Sabbathday Lake, ME
Description
Scale with a large weighing platform 9 1/2" in diameter with a tiered exterior lip. At the center of the platform there is a small hole. The platform has a cast stem with a screw extending downward through its center. This screw connects the platform with the beam through a series of iron framework. The beam is notched with every other notch designated with a tick mark. At the end of the measuring scale is a convex hook with a rectangular cut slot for additional weights. The framework is supported and joined to a cast iron base with a circular form and a split arm giving it a tadpole-like shape. The split base provides structural balance to the scale.
