Last, Shoe
Shoe last, Canterbury, NH
Description
Wood block cut in the form of a shoe. The shoe last has an almond-shaped toe, from which the height of the last increases toward the instep where there is a punched inscription. The slope of the instep plateaus and forms an oval top. Below the top there is a thought-hole 1/4" in diameter on one side. The other side of the hole is irregular and looks as if it was crudely cut. From the top the heel curve extends 2 3/8" to the seat. The seat's sides are curved forming the waist and widening from there to the joint and tapering to the toe.
