Description
This photograph is inscribed on the back: "Amateur. Group Front of Church Family Dwelling. Mass., Hancock," and "No. 11." It also bears the blue stamp of "Henry Terry Clough, Mt. Lebanon, N. Y." Clough was an amateur photographer who both collected photographs of the Shakers at Mount Lebanon and made some of his own. It may be that this was a series that he submitted to some contest, and therefore, they were marked "Amateur" as the category in which he was entering them.
