Description
This photograph was obtained from the New York State Museum's collection of photographs of Shaker sites, but was not included in the photographs given by the Museum to the Historic American Buildings Survey [HABS]. This is the main kitchen in the first or upper dwelling and should not be confused with photographs that were included in the HABS collection that are of the canning or preserving kitchen stove and sink. To the right of the stove the door leads to the scullery an exterior door beyond and the door to the left leads to the the pantry. Information included on the HABS plan drawings (sheet 6) for this room includes the information that "The existing iron massive cooking stove and built to order in New York City in 1873."
