[Group of North Family Shakers, Mount Lebanon, NY]
1912
Description
This group of North Family Shakers is posed in the rear dooryard of the North Family Dwelling House. The building to the left is the Wood House (1854) after the conversion of its south end to the new family laundry (1880). On the right is a glimpse of the northwest corner of the Dwelling and behind it the Sisters' Workshop (1852). In the distance is a section of the south wall of the Stone Barn (1859). A note in The Shaker Image, 2d edition, p. 215, entry 180-p161, dates this photograph to August 15, 1912, a logical date for the photograph considering who is in and who is not in the photograph.
