Description

The three vehicles shown in this image are heading south probably to the Second, South, or possibly the Canaan Families following Sunday meeting. The Church Family buildings in the photograph include, from right to left, the Wood House/Sisters' Workshop (1841?), the Dwelling or Great House, so called, (1788), the Meetinghouse (1824), and the Old Meetinghouse (1785) during its flat-roof period. The wire fence that can be seen just under the heads of the lead team of horses allows us to date this image sometime after the summer of 1871 when the fence was erected and before 1875 when the Great House burned.
