This portrait of [Mary Jane] Sarah Collins (1855-1947) is printed on a postcard, which is labeled "Shaker Sister New Lebanon N.Y." She had been brought to the Shakers at the age of seven, after being orphaned. She would go on to head the South Family as an eldress for over sixty years. She directed the Shaker chair industry at Mt. Lebanon and seated chair frames.
