Description

As many as twenty-two Shaker Sisters and young girls populate this photograph made in the Mount Lebanon Shaker Girls (summer) School. An annotation in the 2d edition of The Shaker Image identifies the girl on the extreme right as Mrs. Nett (Webb?) when a girl in school; Harriet Jane Hazelin," (1856-left 1874). However, the girl on the extreme right is different depending on which side of the stereo pair one is looking at. The annotation also identifies the Sister seated in front of the teacher's desk as Sister Emma J. Neal as being the "chief teacher." This printing of the Shaker School view, although made from the same negative, was printed to show considerably less of the rooms ceiling than is shown in noc004387.
