This photograph is inscribed on the back, "Falls Above Saw-Mill" and the initials "W. P.," i.e., West Pittsfield Shakers. The falls were caused by the upper of two dams on the stream that the Hancock Shakers had dammed to operate several mills at their North Family. Hancock Photographic Album.
