Description

Men's hat, woven of straw. Wide brim of 4", crown 4 1/8". Circular weaving design on top of the crown. 3/4" wide taupe ribbon with a bow on the proper left side at the base of the crown. Dark lavender paper with serrated edges sewn into the interior base of the crown, labeled "Benjamin Gates". 1 7/8" wide dark leather sweat band.

Notes

The hat passed from Sarah Neale to John S. Rudd, who lived in a former Shaker house in Tyringham, Massachusetts.
