Sailmaker's palm, Sabbathday Lake, ME
Description
Sailmaker's palm for pushing needles through leather during the shoe-making process. Irregular piece of leather with a buckle on one end and a strap with nine loops to fasten the palm to the user's hand. At the widest part of the palm there is an open circle for ones thumb. Next to it is a raised donut-shaped piece of leather secured to the framework by string along "donut's" edge. Center of the "donut" has an indented piece of metal with concentric circles radiating from center. Stitching is visible on back of palm.
