Box, Storage
Oval box painted yellow, attributed to Alfred, ME
Description
Steam-bent maple box (a) and lid (b) rims, white pine headers, and swallow-tails held by copper tacks (three on the box, one on the lid pointing to the right). Headers secured by copper points. Exterior painted yellow; unfinished interior.
Notes
Bernard Brown attributes this box to Alfred, ME, on the basis of its height relative to its elliptical dimensions, the short but quite graceful swallowtails, the three box swallowtails that match other known Alfred boxes, and the fact that the swallowtail ends were cut to length after the bands were bent and secured.
