Description

Flail consisting of (a) a turned hickory handle with a swivel at one end. The swivel was made by carving a block of hickory and bending it so that the relieved center forms a loop. The insides of the end blocks are carved so that after bending, the blocks have a center hole which fits over a section of reduced diameter at the handle end and the block is secured by two loops of twisted wire. The flail (b) is a piece of riven hickory draw-knife and spoke-shaved to a rough cylinder. It was originally attached to the swivel with a piece of leather.
