Historical notes

The Shaker Village Work Group was a summer camp for teenagers which operated from 1947 until 1973. The camp was founded and run by Jerome and Sybil Count, who purchased the buildings and property of the Mount Lebanon South and West Families in 1946. The summer camp was a co-ed venture for children from 12-14. The campers, known as "villagers," lived and worked in original Shaker dwellings, created early American crafts, operated a camp store, and conducted tours for visitors.
