Historical notes

The Upper Canaan Family was a subsidiary branch of the Gathering Order which was originally gathered in 1813 and moved to Canaan as the Jeremiah Talcott Family in 1821. Elders were appointed in------ and the family was placed under its own Trustee in the 1840's. However, the family remained nominally under the care of the North Family Elders who appointed its leaders. Upper Canaan was closed in 1897 and its members moved to Enfield, Connecticut.
